Lawsuit Seeks To Block Funds For New Arena

A Detroit Federal Court hearing is scheduled for today on a lawsuit aimed at blocking the use of millions of dollars in taxpayer-backed bonds for the new Little Caesars Arena and the new Detroit Pistons headquarters.
The suit contends that such funding would require a vote of city and county residents.

It wants the move of the Pistons downtown stopped until voters decide the issue.

The litigants argue a vote could held in either August or November.

City of Detroit attorneys say the suit is frivolous and could damage the city’s recovery efforts.

They want it dismissed.

Today’s court hearing is on the litigant’s request for a temporary restraining order to block the funding for the arena and the Pistons new headquarters.
