Sentencing Scheduled In Jihad Weapons Case

A Detroit man accused of plotting a jihad on behalf of the Islamic state is scheduled to be sentenced today in Detroit Federal Court.

30 year old Sebastian Gregerson accepted a plea deal with federal prosecutors and is facing almost four years in prison.

He admitted he purchased fragmentation grenades last summer from and FBI agent.

Prosecutors had alleged Gregerson planned to use the grenades and other weapons in preparation for a violent attack.

According to courtroom testimony, Gregerson had converted to Islam after graduating from high school in Ann Arbor over a decade ago.

Although he was suspected of supporting terrorist, he was never charged with crimes of terrorism.

The purchase of the grenades were a crime because they were unregistered destructive devices.
