Results Of Macomb Clerk Probe Coming Soon

Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger continues to be a lightning rod for controversy.
Spranger, a Republican, took office with the first of the year after her surprised victory over Democrat Fred Miller for the post in last November’s election.

Last week she asked the attorney general’s office to investigate whether officials from County Executive Mark Hackel’s administration violated the law when they had court records moved against her wishes.

County officials say the file transfer was part of a wide-scale renovation of county buildings.

An attorney for Spranger also charged last week that she is the target of a politically motivated smear campaign.

He was referring to charges that she perjured herself when running for the clerk’s office by saying that she was a resident of Warren.

He said the charges are not true.

Sheriff Anthony Wickersham had previously said his office was looking into a complaint filed with his office, but did not discuss details.

He did say the investigation should be completed shortly.
