Are You Ready For The Eclipse?

In Michigan, 80 to 90 percent of the sun will be blotted out by the moon this afternoon.
The best spot in Michigan for viewing the eclipse is the extreme southwest corner of the state in New Buffalo.

Grand Rapids and Traverse City will get an 85 percent eclipse. SE Michigan will get about 80 percent.

Places to go for special events include:
Lawrence Technological University,on 10 Mile Rd., Southfield,.

LTU will be setting up solar telescopes in the quad at Lawrence Tech from 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Southfield Public Library–
The library will be handing out glasses.

Cranbrook Institute of Science–
The institute will host events and stream views.

Michigan Science Center, on John R., Detroit.
The science center will offer free solar eclipse viewing glasses on a first-come, first-served basis.

Southwest Solutions Adult Learning Lab, Vernor Hwy, Detroit,.

West Bloomfield—
The Adventure Park on W. Maple.

The University of Michigan, —

Many public libraries in the area will have viewing events.

As far as things not to do …. do not look at the eclipse unless your eyes are covered with a certified solar filter.

Do not look at the sun through a camera, a telescope, binoculars or any other optical devise while wearing eclipse glasses as the concentrated solar rays will damage the filter and

harm your eyes.

As far as things to do … check your solar glasses before using.

If they are scratched or damaged, do not use them.

Make sure all children are supervised while using solar filters.

Make sure your eyes are covered with a solar filter before looking up at the sun and do not remove the filter until you look away from the sun.

Here in Michigan, the eclipse will start about one this afternoon and last until about four.

The maximum coverage will occur just before 2:30.
