Jenny Jones Show Killer Going Free

A man who killed another man after they appeared on a national tv talk show 22 years ago could become a free man today.

Jonathan Schmitz was 24 when his gay acquaintance, 32 year old Scott Amedure, revealed to him on a taping of the now defunct Jenny Jones show that he had a crush on him.

Schmitz said he was not gay that he had thought he was going on the show to meet a woman who had a secret crush on him..

Three days after the taping, Schmitz shot and killed Amedure in Lake Orion.

He turned himself into police and said he shot him because he had been embarrassed on national tv.

The show never aired, but clips were shown on tv news shows.

Schmitz was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison in 1996..

He was granted parole at a meeting of the parole board in March.

Prison officials would not reveal the date of his release, but Amedure’s older brother Frank said he was told it would be today.
