The slim hopes have been dashed that a Navy man whose mother lives in Milford had survived the collision of a destroyer with a tanker The Navy says the young sailor was killed.
The Navy says 22 year old Ken Smith was one of those trapped below decks when the USS John S. McCain collided with a tanker off the coast of Singapore. Smith grew up in Novi, and moved as a teenager to live with his father in Virginia.
His mother lives in Milford, where they held a vigil.
Smith was one of 10 sailors listed as missing.
Other remains have been recovered. The search effort for the other 9 has been suspended.
