The Michigan Secretary of State is today beginning to issue drivers licenses and I-D cards that will eventually be required to board an airlines flight or even enter a federal building.
Under what is called the federal ‘Real I-D Act,’ state residents who don’t have a specially designated identification card will not be allowed to board domestic flights, and enter federal
buildings, nuclear plants and military bases without an accepted I-D document such as a passport.
The new restrictions take effect October 1st of 2020.
Cards that will allow your entrance will be marked with a star inside of a gold circle on the upper right of the card.
Michigan residents should check their license or I-d card renewal forms when they arrive in the mail to determine if they have already complied with the read I-d requirement.
If you do need to get a compliant card, you will need to bring a certified birth certificate of other approved document to any secretary of state office.
There is no extra cost for the new compliance card.
