Capitol Park Gets A Lift

An overlooked space on the west side of downtown Detroit is due to get a complete makeover.

Renderings for a re-design of Detroit’s Capitol Park will be revealed this evening at a public meeting.
The plans to re-develop the park were undertaken by the Downtown Detroit Partnership, which brought in Public Work, a Toronto urban design firm.
Capitol Park is a small area just west of Woodward, bordered by Clifford Street, Washington Blvd., Michigan, and Woodward.
The area has a park and is comprised of a number of buildings designed by famous architects.
The once-crumbling park is finding new life, with new and renovated buildings, businesses, and residents. Bike lanes and wider sidewalks would be added.
It’s called Capitol Park because it was the site of the first capitol of Michigan. The remains of Stephens Mason, Michigan’s first governor, are interred at Capitol Park.

The meeting will take place at 6pm at
