Macomb Officials Try Again To Get Rid Of County Clerk

A court hearing is scheduled for today in the latest dispute involving controversial Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger.

Spranger had filed a lawsuit against the county and the county board of commissioners in June.

The county is asking that it be allowed to file a counter claim to her lawsuit.

The request is being heard by Saint Clair County Judge Daniel Kelly.

He was appointed after all of the Macomb County Circuirt Court Judges recused themselves.

County officials are trying to build a case to have her removed from office.

They say she lied on her affidavit of residency when she filed to run for the clerk’s office last year.

They are now pointing to her use of a Bridge Card in three western Wayne County city’s miles from the home she claimed she lived in in Warren.

They say the bridge card was used about 180 times at stores in Westland, Livonia and Novi.

Spranger said she shopped at the stores in question because she was taking a cooking class on that side of town.

County prosecutor Eric Smith says his office is investigating the residency issue.
