The predicted onslaught of Hurricane Irma on Florida led Spirit Airlines to move its entire operation from its headquarters in Florida here to Detroit’s Metro Airport.

The airlines was forced to cancel some 500 flights last week, including all of their flights to Florida starting Saturday night.

Over 200 Spirit employees and their families were flown in to Metro.

The employees are working 12 hour shifts to keep its other flights going.
