U-S Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is to speak today at the grand opening of Michigan State’s Grand Rapids Research Center.
Some faculty and student at the university had protested her appearance.
They have argued that that she is an enemy of public education.
DeVos has drawn criticism from teachers unions and other public education supporters for advocating the use of tax dollars to fund private schools through vouchers and other means.
The 88 million dollar research facility being opened today was constructed with gifts that included ten million dollars from Richard and Helen DeVos, Betsy’s in-laws.
