A former high school teacher in Macomb County is charged with stealing thousands of dollars from homecoming dance receipts and a student camping trip— to feed her gambling habit.
29 year old Lydia Johnson was the student activity coordinator at Macomb Dakota Hi in the Chippewa Valley School District.
The Macomb County Prosecutor says the homecoming dance last year took in about $30,000. Only 11,000 went into the bank account. A student and parent trip to Camp Tamarack should have collected about $13,000. But only $500 were put in the account. The office of Prosecutor Eric Smith says
MGM Casino records indicate that Johnson spent more than $90,000 there in 2016 playing slots. The search of Johnson’s classroom revealed several casino receipts next to the open and empty homecoming envelopes.
