Canada Auto Strike Talks Shift To Detroit

Auto workers from Canada meet with GM in Detroit to try to settle a strike.

The Chevrolet Equinox plant in Ingersoll, Ontario has been idle for nearly 2 weeks. More than two-thirds of Equinox production comes from the factory. It’s the company’s best-selling crossover.
Some progress in the talks have been reported between GM and the Unifor union. The union characterizes the talks as ‘disappointing.’
Unifor has said it would not agree to a contract without a provision designating their plant as the lead producer for the Equinox, which is also built in Mexico. GM recently moved production of the Terrain— the GMC equivalent of the Equinox— to Mexico, costing 600 Canadian jobs.
