Auto Insurance: Let The Debates Begin

Hearings are to start this morning on a bill aimed at reducing auto insurance premiums.

It’s the first hearing on a measure that would guarantee reductions of 20 to 50 percent on premiums by allowing drivers several options.

These include choosing lower levels of coverage, setting fee schedules for the health care services that would be provided for car crash victims and allowing senior citizens
to use their Medicare coverage instead of their auto insurance in paying for crash-related injuries.

The bill is opposed by many medical professionals and severely-injured car-crash victims.

The business community has been supporting the bill.

There is mixed support among lawmakers.
