Fraudsters Commit Bad Deeds

Four Metro Detroiters charged with operating a fraudulent mortgage and property deed ring are scheduled to be arraigned today.

44 year old James Webb of Detroit was described as the alleged ringleader.

The others charged are 42 year old Geneva Edwards of New Baltimore, 46 year old Zarvelar Weems-Jones of Southfield and 52 year old Trini El-Bay of Detroit.

Worthy explained that the four took advantage of home owners by illegally taking possession of vacant and abandoned homes … then illegally registering the homes and selling them to unsuspecting would-be home buyers at low prices .

Once the scheme was uncovered, those who had already moved into the homes were then forced to move out and, of course, their money was lost.

Worthy said the group took possession of 19 homes between January of last year and March of this year and that 23 people were cheated out of several thousand dollars.
