Westland Fire Hero, 82: “Just Instinct”

1 elderly resident is in critical condition, in a senior citizens apartment fire in which an 82-year-old man carried his neighbor down nine flights of stairs to save him in the fire in Westland.

Fred Wolski, 82,  lives on the ninth floor of Taylor Towers, next to an apartment that went up in flames when a kitchen caught fire.

Wolski grabbed the man who lives in the apartment where the fire started and got him out.

He returned to get the man’s wife, but firefighters were able to rescue her.

Wolski told a TV reporter, “It was just instinct, to help people.”

A woman and another resident were taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
