Car Insurance Package Advances

A bill to reform auto insurance in Michigan has cleared a state house committee. It will now go on to a full House vote. The bill would allow car owners the option to buy lower-level coverage that’s cheaper than current policies, but have less coverage than the unlimited injury coverage now required in Michigan, as a way to reduce rates.
Legislators amended the bill to provide guaranteed rate relief to all motorists, not just those who choose the lowest level of personal injury protection — $250,000. Those choosing $500,000 or unlimited coverage levels would also see premiums reductions.
