A hearing involving the rights of a parent to prevent a child from being vaccinated resumes today in Oakland County Circuit Court.
A Walled Lake woman, Lori Matheson, doesn’t want her 2 year old daughter immunized.
He ex-husband, Michael Schmitt of Troy, does.
Matheson testified before Judge Karen McDonald that she has religious and personal objections to vaccines.
She wants the judge to delay any action until genetic testing can be conducted to see whether her daughter is predisposed to adverse reactions to vaccines.
Today’s court hearing will involve expert testimony on the value of vaccines.
In another case earlier this month, the judge sent a Ferndale mom to jail for ignoring a court order to vaccinate her 9 year old son.
When she was released 5 days later, she learned that the boy had been vaccinated while in the custody of his father.
Judge McDonald has received several death threats on social media and other web sites.
The Oakland County sheriff’s office is investigating.
