Wayco Jail Before Council

The Detroit jail plan goes before Detroit City Council today. The land swap that would lead to the construction of a new jail and courthouse no longer includes a new soccer stadium. The soccer boosters now plan to use Ford Field.
According to the agreement, Detroit has the option to skip the land swap and instead receive the market value of the city property from Wayne County.
An unfinished jail on the site would be torn down.
The City Council is set to vote on the deal to give the city the former American Motors site on Plymouth Road in exchange for 11 acres of city-owned land to the county. If approved by council, the deal would still need to win approval from the Wayne County Commission.
