Arraignment In Cop Extortion Plot

A Detroit police officer who has been charged with extortion is scheduled to be arraigned today.

45 year old Deonne Dotson was one of six police officers charged in a scheme in which they demanded bribes from collision shops in exchange for getting them business in handling abandoned vehicles.

He’s due in court today.

Dotson and 52 year old Charles Wills were indicted earlier this month.

The other four officers had been indicted several months ago, but had been kept under wraps as an FBI investigation continued.

All have since entered guilty pleas to charges that will send them to prison for periods ranging from 18 to 30 months.

They were recently identified as 46 year old James Martin, 45 year old James Robertson, 29 year old Martin Tutt and 52 year old Anthony Careathers

Detroit Police Chief James Craig said the FBI probe had started three years ago and he believes all of the guilty parties have been identified.
