Will Fraser Go Broke?

A Macomb County community is facing the new year with the possibility that the state will appoint an emergency manager to oversee its fiscal affairs.

The city of Fraser has a 14 million dollar operating budget for the new year.

But it is looking at only 12 million dollars in revenues.

The city council has been looking for ways to cut spending.

8 police officers have been laid off.

The city’s activity center has been closed and senior citizen services discontinued.

Summer activities for youth have also been put on hold.

A 3-mill increase was turned down by voters in November.

City manager Wayne O’Neal says, if the problems aren’t corrected, he expects the city will be broke in 18 months.
