U-M President Urges Prevention After MSU Fiasco

The President of the University of Michigan sends out an alert to the campus on combatting sexual abuse.

He didn’t mention Michigan State or Lou Anna Simon by name, but U of M President Mark Schlissel issued a strong letter on the importance of the campus community working together to prevent sexual misconduct.

Schlissel wrote, ” heartbreaking accounts of survivors bravely come forward and inspire fellow survivors and bring about positive change to prevent future awful unacceptable behaviors.” He says, “I am committed to ensuring that we continuously strive to do better.”
Schlissel had just highlighted U of M’s report on all investigations of student misconduct that showed a 40-percent increase in the number of reports, resulting in 28 investigations with 8 violations. The report says that new types of allegations are now covered under the campus policy, enhancing awareness on campus and how to report any concerns.
