Ex-Lansing Teacher Heads To Jail

A former Lansing middle school teacher is sentenced on a sexual misconduct charge.
60 year old Jeffrey Howenstine pled guilty to a charge of attempting to engage a minor for prostitution.

He had been charged last year in connection with a sex-trafficking ring that had also led to the arrest of Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunning the third.

Dunning pled guilty to a charge of misconduct and solicitation and served a ten month sentence.

The man charged with running the sex trafficking ring, Tyrone Smith, pled guilty to the charges against him and is serving a 25 year prison term.

Howenstine, who had been acquitted in a separate case in 2002 involving sexual conduct involving a student, gets 2 1/2 years in prison in this latest case.
