Spranger’s Biggest Battle In Judge’s Hands

After a confrontation and fracas with an office employee, and a claim that federal marshals have been sent to help her, a St. Clair County Circuit Court Judge continues to consider the fate of embattled Macomb County Clerk Karen Spranger.

The county filed suit against Spranger, charging she falsified her home address in April of 2016 when she filed to run for the clerk’s office.

Spranger has denied the charge.

Macomb County Circuit court judges recused themselves from hearing the case.

It was assigned to Judge Daniel Kelly.

He listened to arguments from both sides in a court hearing back on March 19th and said he would issue a written opinion within a couple of weeks.

If he sides with the county, state law says Spranger should be removed from office.

If she wins, she stays on the job.

The judge could also rule that there is an issue of fact in dispute and grant Spranger’s request for a jury trial on the issue.
