Defendant Turns Down Deal, May be Sorry

He was offered a plea deal that would have seen him serve 6 months in jail.

He turned it down and now he is looking at the possibility of 20 years in prison.

25 year old DeAngelo Jones of Clinton Township had been charged with 2nd degree murder for helping his mother, 48 year old Belinda Jones, fatally stab a man in front of their townhouse near 15 mile and Gratiot in 2013.

The victim, 33 year old James Williams, had gone to the home claiming he had been robbed a short time earlier.

Police say Jones felt she was being threatened and called for help from her son and two other men in the home.

They went out side and attacked him.

Police say Belinda Jones then stabbed Williams seven times.

She was convicted of murder and is serving a 16-35 year prison term.

The other 2 men pled guilty assault charges and were sentenced to relatively short prison terms.
