Fraudster Hits DTW In Salt Caper: Feds

A businessman is charged with fraud for a $1.5 million ice-melting product for Detroit Metro airport that authorities say he never actually bought.

The contractor pocketed the money with help from the inside, according to federal authorities.

Gary Tenaglia of Rochester had contracts to remove snow and ice from the Blue Deck parking deck at Detroit Metro. Tenaglia is charged with filing a phony invoice to the Wayne County Airport Authority saying that he had purchased $1.5 million worth of a specialty deicer that was better than salt. But court records say that didn’t happen, and that he had help in the billing scam from two un-named co-conspirators.
