Toyota Builds Dangerous Driving Facility

Toyota is expanding it’s work on self-driving vehicles, by planning a new facility for testing.

Work is going on to build a closed-course facility to replicate dangerous driving situations that autonomous vehicles will face. The scenarios are too risky to test on public roads. Toyota is building at the 1 pt 8 mile oval test track at the Michigan Technical Resource Park in Ottawa Lake, on the Michigan side northeast of Toledo. It will replicate urban traffic jams, icy pavement, and hi-speed 4 lane freeway driving. The proving ground will also be used for development of what Toyota calls it’s Guardian automation system.
