Facing Bankruptcy, Fraser Hikes Taxes

Fraser will raise taxes by several hundred dollars a year for the average homeowner. The city is broke.

The tax hike has been rejected by voters twice, but last night the Fraser council voted to raise taxes by a whopping 9 mills. City officials say without a big tax hike, Fraser would face bankruptcy.

The council voted to outsource the city’s 9-1-1 dispatching to save money. The city has cut police and fire in the last several years, laying off 8 police officers earlier this year.
