West Michigan is getting a new Amazon distribution center…. and hundreds of jobs that come with it.
Amazon will build a new fulfillment center in Gaines Twp. near Grand Rapids. About 1-thousand workers will be hired for the facility, which is earmarked for 100 acres owned by the Steelcase company.
Amazon gets incentives. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation put together 4-million dollars in state grants and tax breaks to lure Amazon, which was also looking at offers from Ohio, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.
State grants will help Amazon recruit the workforce it needs. The grants will be given only if Amazon hits the employment goals. The 150-million dollar project includes state of the art logistics and robotics equipment.
