The UAW has a new president. 60 year old Gary Jones takes over at the union for Dennis Williams, who is retiring. Jones is being installed at the UAW national convention. Jones has been the director of Region 5 of the union since 2004, and is the former chief accountant of the UAW.
Jones is the 12th president of the UAW.
Ray Curry becomes secretary-treasurer. Curry has been director of Region 8 which covers the south and part of the east. Region 1-A director, Rory Gamble, becomes a vice-president replacing Jimmy Settles, who is retiring. The UAW will bargain national labor contracts with the Detroit-3 automakers next year.
