Auto insurance fees in Michigan are going up effective Sunday.
The fee drivers pay to cover catastrophic medical claims under the state’s no-fault insurance plan goes up by 13 percent.
The fee was 170-dollars a year.
The increase raise the per-vehicle assessment to 192-dollars.
The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, whose board is dominated by insurance companies, said the increase is necessary because of higher-than-anticipated cost for claims.
The state system is unique in that provides for unlimited, lifetime medical auto insurance benefits for catastrophic claims.
