Steep Tariffs Now In Effect Between U-S, China

Trade tariffs are taking hold on goods between the U-S and China. New vehicles and auto parts are affected.

President Trump and administration officials say the final total of affected goods could eventually reach $550 billion.

China, in retaliation, hiked tariffs on $34 billion in American goods, including U.S. vehicle imports, to 40 percent from 15 percent . The duties will heavily impact Mercedes-Benz, BMW , Ford and Tesla.

China imports nearly 270,000 U.S.-made vehicles annually, worth $11 billion. U.S. customs began collecting 25 percent tariffs on Chinese imports of goods ranging from farming plows to semiconductors and airplane parts.
