Road Workers Locked Out

No word on talks resuming yet in the lockout which has caused the delay of major road construction project around Michigan. A union representing heavy equipment operators wants to negotiate new contracts with separate contractors instead of the Michigan Infrastructure And Transportation Association, which is a group of contractors.
The latest contract expired in June.
The bitter dispute brings projects to a halt on I-696, the I-75 Rouge bridge, M-59, and others, in which the state has scheduled work to be complete before the coldest weather arrives. MITA tells WJR they have offered a 5 year contract with raises of more than 2 percent a year.
