Hit-Run Cop Death in Court

A Detroit man is due in court today for a preliminary exam in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a Wayne County Sheriff’s Sergeant.
47 year old Desmond Robinson has been charged in the death of Sgt. Lee Smith.

Smith was hit as he was jogging in Hines Park in Westland on August 14th.

Prosecutors say Robinson panicked after hitting the deputy, drove to his home in Inkster, bought some body parts and tried to repair the damage to the front of his car.

An investigation by the Westland Police Department let to the arrest of Robinson in Garden City

Smith, of Redford, was a 26 year veteran of the force and had planned on retiring on October 1st.
