Convicted Killer Hopes To Get New Trial

A man who spent 17 years in prison for murder returns to court today hoping that the original charges against him will be dismissed.
48 year old Mubarez Ahmed had been convicted in 2002 of a double homicide in Detroit.

Years after his conviction, the eyewitness who had helped convict him told investigators for the Michigan Innocent Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School that the detective in charge of the case had showed her a photo of Ahmed just before a police lineup and told her who to point at.

On August 15th, Ahmed was granted a new trial.

He was released from prison on September 6th.

He was ordered to wear a tether pending today’s court hearing.
