Cops In Court For Assault

A preliminary exam is scheduled for today for two Detroit police officers accused in the assault of a customer in a Corktown tavern.

It involved  an incident during the St Patrick’s Day parade on March 11th.

48 year old Lt. Timothy Leach and 53 year old officer Frederick Person were moonlighting as security officers at a bar on Michigan Avenue.

Prosecutors say Leach was removing 42 year old Michael Karpovich of Wasington Township from the bar and pushed him.

He hit his head as he fell and was knocked unconscious, suffering significant head injuries..

Leach has been charged with assault, a ten year felony.

Person has been charged with lying to police, a 5 year felony and tampering with evidence, a 4 year felony.
