Northville Hospital Project Delayed Again

The demolition of the old Northville Psychiatric Hospital has hit a snag.
The hospital operated from the 1950’s until state closed it in 2003.

Northville Township purchased the property in 2009.

A demolition company was hired and the plans had called for the 9-story hospital and an adjacent 2-story office building to be torn down this summer.

However, that timeline was exploded when asbestos fibers were discovered.

The clean-up is expensive and takes lots of time.

Now, the hospital isn’t expected to be torn down before next June.

Another problem is the cost of the project.

An original estimate of 5.88 million has now jumped to about 8.5 million dollars.
