What Will Brenda Jones Do?

Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones still has not commented on what her future holds.

Jones is set to become Michigan’s newest member of Congress next month, but that there is a big ‘if’ in the equation.
Jones won the August special primary to finish out the term of Congressman John Conyers, who resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct.

His term expires at the end of the year.

At the same time, Jones lost her bid to replace Conyers for his next two-year term.

It is unclear if Jones plans to step down from her city council seat to take the Washington job, or if she would be required to do so under federal law.

Jones has not said whether she was given a waiver to hold both positions.

She did say in late September that she might make a decision in the next few days, but has said nothing more since.
