P-FAS Worries Addressed In Macomb

State environmental officials tell residents near the Clinton River and Lake St. Clair that there was no threat of chemical contamination in the watershed, despite tests showing the presence of P-FAS chemicals in the river and near Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

The state has identified more than 30 contamination sites that have tested positive for the P-FAS class of chemicals. The list includes Lake St. Clair and the Clinton River. Perflorokyl and similar chemicals have been used in fire fighting, and thousands of household products. they were heavily used at airports to protect against fires. The state health department advises to limit the consumption of fish caught in Lake St. Clair.
