Detroit Schools Sours On Carson Name

Dr. Ben Carson used to be a hero in the black community— a Detroit public schools graduate who became a world-famous brain surgeon.
Now, Carson’s name will be taken off the Ben Carson High School by the Detroit Board of Education. Board member Lamar Lemmons tells the Frank Beckmann show that Carson’s conservative political philosophy and his job as a Trump cabinet member are at odds with Detroit residents.

Lemmons says the board also wants to name schools for people who are no longer alive.

The board will rename several schools, and are poised to name a school for Aretha Franklin.
