Squabble Over School Official Back In Court

Former Detroit City Council member Sharon McPhail is due back in court today in a dispute over whether she lacks the certification needed to be a school administrator.

McPhail was fired 3 weeks ago as superintendent of a charter school, but refused to leave the facility.

The Detroit Community Schools sought an emergency restraining order preventing her from managing business operations at the school.

McPhail said she does have the proper certification, but doesn’t need it because she has never been responsible for instructional programs at the school.

Arguments were heard by Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Craig Strong on October 17th.

He said he wants both sides to try to settle the issue and ordered them to report back to court today.
