There’s A Walmart In Ford’s Future

Ford is getting together with the biggest retailer to use self-driving vehicles to deliver goods to the doorsteps of consumers.

Walmart wants to use Ford self-driving vehicles to take merchandise and groceries to Walmart customers.
A pilot project is being launched in Miami.

First order of business— to understand how the other works, and figure out which products work best for autonomous delivery. Then, determine whether vehicles need a new design to handle the goods.

Ford has been testing ride-hailing operations in Miami. And both Ford and Walmart are using the platform Postmates for dispatch and routing of deliveries. Walmart has the potential to be a major customer for Ford, as Walmart competes with Amazon for home delivery customers.
