Ford Preserves Jobs; Offers Sweet Buyouts

Ford is shifting around workers to meet demand for S-U-V’s and trucks. Some new jobs may be added.

Hourly workers are being transferred between the Ford Louisville and Kentucky truck plants, 500 jobs are added to Livonia Transmission, to boost production of the F-series pickups and the new Ranger pickup. Flat Rock assembly will reduce one shift, affecting 650 workers. But they will be offered transfers.

At the same time, Ford is giving some details of white-collar job buyouts first reported by WJR.

Ford has been whittling down the salaried payroll with an improved exit offer.
Ford is giving employees a lump sum payment of 9 months pay after taking off the final 3 months of the year.
The sweetener has produced hundreds of new Ford retirees… who get a better deal than GM salaried workers are getting.
