Construction unions that supported governor-elect Gretchen Whitmer for governor are urging Whitmer to support a new deal to build a tunnel for Line 5, the oil pipelines at the bottom of the straits of Mackinac. Whitmer promised in her campaign she would shut down Line 5. Whitmer was also backed by environmental groups opposed to Line 5.
