Train Depot Work Underway

Ford is beginning its renovation of the old Michigan Central Train Station in Corktown.

The first phase of the project begins with winterizing the massive building which has been abandoned for 30 years. It needs to be dried out from extensive water damage. Ford says the building also needs to be stabilized.

They’ll start by covering open windows and holes on the roof. Pumps will be installed in the basement to prevent further flooding and heaters and fans will be placed to circulate air through the building. Special drying machines will be in place that take the humidity out of the air and the walls.
The drying process will take months.
