Mich. Lawmakers Study Extra Money

Michigan lawmakers are into the last week of their lame duck session and they are dealing with millions of dollars in surplus funds.

State tax revenues were higher than expected.

This gave lawmakers another 98.5 million dollars to work with on top of the Governor’s 371-million dollar supplemental budget

Democrats are concerned this may spark a last-minute spending spree by Republicans.

Lawmakers could decide to spend more or less than the Governor has recommended and they could also approve other spending goals.

Among the spending plans the Governor has proposed are 183-million dollars for state and local roads, boosting the state’s rainy day fund by 160-million dollars and 14.7 million dollars to fight PFAS chemical contamination.
