Refinery Repairs Made After Foul Odor

What was that bad smell?
Marathon Petroleum apologizes for the strong odor that spread all around the area.
It came from the Marathon refinery in Detroit and Melvindale.
Officials with Marathon say that the odor is from a substance called mercaptan, which is added to natural gas to give it a detectable smell. Repairs are currently ongoing.
Marathon blames a flare at the refinery that is not properly functioning.
The odor wafted across metro Detroit.

Although there was an odor, Marathon says it was not dangerous.
