GM,FOMOCO Layoff Info

General Motors confirms it began cutting some 4,000 salaried jobs. The process will take the next two weeks.

The job cuts are  part of a restructuring intended to save $2.5 billion. GM says some areas have already made cuts over the past couple of weeks.

Ford  notified the state that it plans to layoff  1,000 hourly workers by April 1. Ford says that most of the workers are moving to other factories rather than losing jobs.

Some 440 workers classified as temporary are not protected and are not guaranteed jobs at other locations.
