FCA To Build New Detroit Plant

Detroit will be getting it’s first new auto plant in nearly 30 years.
Fiat Chrysler will turn the old Mack Avenue engine plant into a Jeep assembly plant.

Fiat Chrysler plans to build the next-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, a new 3-row full-sized Jeep, and a plug-in hybrid version at the former Mack engine plant. The project will create about 38-hundred new jobs.

In addition, the Jefferson North plant will be retooled to build the Dodge Durango and more Jeep Grand Cherokees, in a move that will add 11-hundred new jobs.

And FCA will expand and make investments at 3 other facilities. The company says the new projects will create nearly 65-hundred new jobs.

FCA CEO Mike Manley says the moves are the next step in a long-range plan to play up the strength of the Jeep and Ram truck brands, will lead to new electric plug-ins and fully electric vehicles,

The company plans to start construction of the new assembly plant sometime in late summer. The first vehicles would roll off the line by the end of next year.
