The re-trial of a former Michigan State Police Trooper in the tasing death of a teenage ATV rider is scheduled to start today.
44 year old Mark Bessner has been charged with 2nd degree murder in the death of 15 year old Damon grimes.
Prosecutors say Bessner shot the boy with a taser from his patrol car as he and his partner were chasing Grimes who was riding an ATV in the street in August of 2017.
Bessner was charged and went on trial in October where he testified that he shot the boy because he thought his life was in danger because he saw Grimes reaching with his left hand toward his waistband and a possible weapon.
That trial ended in a hung jury.
Prosecutors then sought a re-trial.
